Few know, but one of Princess Diana’s first attitudes after her separation from Prince Charles was to get off all her shoes without heels. Charles was only an inch bigger than his wife, who was five foot tall. While in her company, Diana could not seem much taller than her husband through the use of platform shoes. In the official photographs, she slightly bent her knees, sat down, or stood one step below the prince to appear lower. The kensington palace servant told the story in 1992 that as soon as the separation was announced by the Prime Minister, Diana swept her low shoes from her closet and came to be seen increasingly in elegant high-heeled shoes.
